So I finally got around to testing our newly acquired “toy”, the Epson Perfection 4990 scanner. It’s an A4-sized flatbed scanner with a ton of accessories intended to make negative and photo scanning easier. The scanner is reasonably priced considering the output produced. I personally don’t care much for the bundled software; it needs more work towards “batch scanning”.
The only problem with getting a decent flatbed scanner with good photo scanning capabilities is that I have to start going through the boxes with thousands and thousands of negatives – aaagh! Other than that, it’s a great tool; featuring both an USB 2.0 interface as well as an iLink/IEEE-1394 aka “Firewire” interface.
